The Louvre-Rivoli metro station is located on line 1 of the Paris Métro, the first line in the city’s history, which was inaugurated during the 1900 Universal Exposition.

This line is a major artery connecting the bustling La Défense business district to the west with the historic Château de Vincennes and Bois de Vincennes to the southeast.

Formerly known simply as “Louvre,” the station underwent a significant transformation in 1989 with the opening of direct access to the worldwide renowned museum.

At the same time, the neighbouring Palais-Royal metro station was also renamed Palais-Royal-Musée-du-Louvre.

Located at the intersection of Rue de Rivoli and Place du Louvre, the station was also renamed Louvre-Rivoli, to reflect its strategic location in the heart of Paris’s historical and cultural centre.
